Anti-aliasing switched on
Just to let everyone know, we have now enabled anti-aliasing for Groupboard, Groupboard Designer and the Artists/Graff version of Groupboard. This means that lines will now appear smoother. A side-effect is that flood fill may now leave a gap at the edges of the area being filled. If you have your own board you can disable anti-aliasing by setting the disable_anti_aliasing parameter to true. -posted by admin at 12 Oct 2010 12:55 |
i think anti-aliasing makes it look less professional. now it just reminds me of a scribble application for kids.. at least turn it off on the artist board... would be better if it was off by default and customers had the option to turn on.
Lol I saw the Demo board for the first time since it was enabled and the first thing i said was "WTH happened to the board?!" xD -posted by PiMP at 13 Oct 2010 16:07 |
Most people wanted the anti-aliasing because it looks more professional - that is why we added it. Without it the lines look jagged. Why do you think jagged lines look more professional than smooth ones? -posted by admin at 13 Oct 2010 16:34 |
Well, its probably because I would use the board for art and working with the raw pixel version enables an artist to create shading in different ways: stipulation, hatching, etc. However, idk all the reasons someone would use the board but it really only seems like anti-aliasing would be a pro for making hand-writing easier to read. -posted by PiMP at 13 Oct 2010 16:50 |
Also it just looks a lot better with anti-aliasing, which is the major factor for most people. -posted by admin at 13 Oct 2010 16:58 |
I really don't see anti-aliasing as looking better. I thought it was just fine before. The lines did appear jagged but they weren't indecipherable. You could still tell where a line was made to go. Is the fill tool going to be fixed? -posted by PiMP at 14 Oct 2010 15:19 |
I have to say it looks better the before. Only major drawback is the loading times, they are huge now. (especially when the spraytool is used). -posted by BETA at 15 Oct 2010 19:51 |
It shouldn't have been using anti-aliasing for the spraycan - I've just switched it off (it doesn't really look any different), so that should help. But yes, it does seem to take a lot longer to load pictures with anti-aliasing on. -posted by admin at 15 Oct 2010 20:22 |
I have a suggestion, if its possible... could you possibly make a non-anti-alias and anti-alias board... kinda like how you have java and non java. can it be made possible to add &anti-alias=false or &anti-alias=true to the URL to change it? -posted by Kutless at 19 Oct 2010 19:15 |
Yes, you can do that - just add "&disable_anti_aliasing=true" to the gb.cgi link for the board. If you want to use one of the demo boards, you can go to http://www.groupboard.com/support/urlgen.shtml to get a link -posted by admin at 19 Oct 2010 19:18 |
Update: we have tweaked the flood fill algorithm to work better with the anti-aliasing. It should now work much better. The only remaining artifacts are occasionally a couple of pixels at the very top and bottom. -posted by admin at 24 Oct 2010 18:39 |
